Dear Werner (or whomever),
Two weeks ago I tried to send you a copy of a video game I
wrote, but it didn't work. I re-binhexed it with line returns, so hopefully
it will work this time. All info about the game can be found in
"Burg. Info" after decompressing. Below is a little info about Burglar in
case you need it for your downloaders. Feel free to change the wording if
it is not match the format of your files. Let me know if anything goes wrong.
Thanks, Steve Hoover(hooves@rpi.edu)
P.S.
How did your uploading email address change from University of
Texas to University of Michigan? I also put a copy of Burglar into
mac/incoming at mac.archive.umich.edu and sent a note to comments@
mac.archive.umich.edu.
About Burglar:
Burglar is a very addictive Macintosh video game. You
run around in a world of boards in which you try to collect
gold. You can do just about anything humanly possible and more,
including jumping, digging, and pushing. Some boards require
quick reflexes and others are very mind boggling. In fact, you
can create boards of your own. Unfortunately, it is black and
white only, and is somewhat annoying to use with system 7;
however future improvements are likely. It will work on even the
oldest of Macs.
This copy of Burglar will stop working on 5/1/93, but if
you download it after this date you can contact me, and I will give
you a code which will give you a month a free trial use.

From: garner@auscs.sps.mot.com (Bob Garner)
Subject: Checkermania 1.04 Demo
Date: Mon, 26 Apr 93 09:34:02 -0500
CHECKERMANIA is a magical twist on the old game of checkers. The
introduction of magic spells has transformed it into a very exciting
and more challenging game. In addition to magic, a "Return the Flag"
variation was added to eliminate any chance of stalemate. Two players
can play against each other or you can match your wits against the
computer. It's great fun for all ages.
CHECKERMANIA has superb color graphics and sound. For machines not
equipped with color, it will also run in B&W.
This program is a demonstration version of CHECKERMANIA. Try it out
and if you like it you can order the fully functional version directly
from Majestic Software for only $12. Just use the on-line order form
by clicking the "How To Order..." button in CHECKERMANIA's opening
window. This will provide you all the instructions needed to order.
Some of CHECKERMANIA's features have been disabled in this
demonstration version; but enough have been left in to allow you to
see if you really like it. CHECKERMANIA's on-line help explains all
the features of the full working version (so you can see what you're
missing!). Also, the "Custom Setup" and "Preferences" windows have
Balloon Help.

I must confess I've had more experience downloading from Sumex

This is a demonstration of Crystal Quest from Casady and Greene, in my opinion
the best arcade game ever written! The object is to collect all the crystals
on the screen, battling bad guys along the way. It should run in B/W or Color
and on all Macs with 1 MB or more RAM. It's kind of hard to describe, but let

Subject: Empire Master 2.8.5
Date: Wed, 8 Dec 93 16:59 EST
This is the latest Empire Master* demo application.
Empire Master is a challenging conquer-the-world strategy wargame.
You start with a single city and use it to produce armies to go
out and conquer more cities so you can produce more armies and
ships and planes until you capture the entire world. The only
problem (there is always a problem) is that the machine is also
building armies and conquering cities and fully intends to
capture the world for itself.
You can't save or restore games in the demo version and some
game options are disabled, but the complete game and all commands
are available. You can get the full unrestricted version with
a printed manual, network play and a disk full of goodies by mail.
Ordering information is included with the demo.

Duh, I'm stupid. I didn't realize that there were other files related
with the Ford Simulator, and hence only sent the application along with
the first time. So! Here is a folder containing the application and
all of the resource files it needs! Sorry to anyone who wasted the
bandwidth downloading it down.
This is a driving simulator put out by Ford a few years ago. It
lets you drive selected Ford models on three tracks: Test Track, which
has an obstacle course, City Challenge, which is like a freeway, and Back
Roads which is like Sunday driving with slow-moving trucks. Three levels
of difficulty are provided for each track.
It also has an Electronic Showroom, a Ford Buyer's Guide, and Ford
Infocenter to allow you to look at all the features of 1990's models. A
bit dated information, of course, but the game is fun for awhile.
Thanks, and sorry again!

From: dewhirst@kuhub.cc.ukans.edu
Subject: Formula One Demo
This Demo is fully functional but has these limits:
- The application will expire after December '92
- F1 will make only one call during a event
- A session cannot be longer than 10 to 15 minutes (random value)
Introduction
Formula 1 is a communication module that improves the performance of point
or BBS programs. F1 can be used as a replacement of TabbyNet and Call
modules for Tabby and Copernicus, but can be used also with CounterPoint
and MacWoof.
This is what F1 improves:
- Full support of WaZoo and FTS-0001 protocols.
- File transfers with ZedZap and ZedZip with crash recovery
- Full support of high speed modems:
- serial speed up to 57600 baud
- hardware handshake
- Support for all the devices registered with the Communication Toolbox.
Points:
- 4D or 5D address (uses fakenet if the boss requires it)
BBS:
- 3 levels of File Request: Default, for 'known' nodes and for protected
sessions
Hardware Requirements
F1 works on any Macintosh with at least 1MBytes of RAM and System 6 or newer.
If you use the hardware handshake you need suited cable.
=-=-=-=-=
Personal Note: Tabby and MacWoof users will find F1 a refreshing change. I
features VERBOSE status displays during transfers, and a beautiful
interface.

FS-ATC 2.1
Air Traffic Control software for
Microsoft Flight Simulator Macintosh version 4.0.
FS-ATC is an air traffic controller software that operates with
Microsoft Flight Simulator. It runs on the background and provides
full air traffic control from tower, approach/departure and center.
FS-ATC uses some undocumented apple events to find out position, direction,
altitude and speed of FS aircraft. Using this information FS-ATC sends
messages to the pilot using notification manager dialog box, playing
sampled sounds, or using Speech Manager to speak the messages.
This version (2.1) introduces a system-wide menu located in the right
side of menubar, that is used to send pilot's messages to controllers.
This version also provides a workaround for overseas flights. A route
from New York JFK to London Heathrow is included.

Pittsburgh to Morgantown Controller
For FS-ATC 2.1
Copyright by Jeffrey N. Fritz
9 December 1993 Version 1.37
All Rights Reserved
No doubt many folks would love to fly above the clouds from
Pittsburgh International to Morgantown, West Virginia--home of the
11-0 Sugar Bowl bound West Virginia Mountaineers! (Go Ers!) With the
PIT-MGW controller and a few other goodies, you will be able to do
that just that. You'll even be able to communicate in real time with
simulated air traffic controllers. The controllers will call out
positioning information to you all along the route. When you break
out of the clouds, Morgantown's Hart field will be dead ahead!
The PIT-MGW controller simulates a Crown (USAir) commuter flight from
Pittsburgh International to Hart Field in Morgantown. The air route
follows the actual route flown by the commuter (weather permitting)
several times a day, seven days a week. The aircraft usually flown is
a Shorts 330. With full out throttle and a little imagination,
Microsoft Flight Simulator's Cessna 182 can come close to emulating
the Shorts.
This is the first of what will be (hopefully) many controllers for
Microsoft Flight Simulator and Miika Asunta's FS-ATC. I would enjoy
hearing from private or commercial pilots or from air traffic
controllers. Maybe you have a flight plan that would be fun to
simulate. I'd be glad to work with pilots or controllers in creating
new controller files, especially for ILS routes that professional or
private pilots have flown.
Getting started
To use this controller you need three things:
1. Microsoft Flight Simulator 4.0 (Mac version)
2. FS-ATC 2.1 Air Traffic Control software for Microsoft Flight Simulator
Macintosh version 4.0 (Available on Sumex-Aim and Nautilus CD-ROM.)
3. Mallard Scenery files, SD-11 World Scenery and SD-9 World Scenery.
Please see the read me file. It contains more information on the
controller and on how it operates.
I worked very hard to make this controller as accurate as possible.
Its development involved numerous conversations with professional
pilots and air traffic controllers. I hope you enjoy it.

This is a non-interactive, self-running demo of Gate, a new
commercial game from Seven Hills Software Corporation. The demo
(and the game) will play on any Macintosh with a hard drive,
System 6.0.7 or later, 4MB RAM, a 640x480 or larger monitor and
256 colors.
Gate reminds me very much of a couple of earlier Mac games I
unfortuntely have forgotten the names of. It's a
run-around-the-land-and-kill-the-nasties type of sword and
sorcery game, with that very typical game view, where you look
vertically down on the playing field and your character.
I am in no way involved with the people who created this game.
I'm just passing it along to the Internet archives. It was
originally uploaded from America Online.

Hello Glider-Fans!
Enclosed in this sit-archive is a very beautiful house with
more than 130 rooms which requires the commercial game Glider
(Version 4.0 and up).
My sister, now 12 years old (the easy, amusing rooms) and I (now 13)
(the hard ones :)) have created it around 1 1/2 years ago.
The names are in german; so keep the dictionary ready!
It's very funny to play it! :-)
To play, place them in the same folder as the game and drag
the first one ("Bloedelhaus") onto the Glider application,
otherwise it doesn't work, at least on my Mac.
Enjoy, it's highly recommended!

** Requires the flight simulator Hellcats (incl. Leyte Gulf) **
***************************************************************
Those folks from Graphic Simulations can sure program a flight simulator,
can't they? But they can't spell worth a darn; dialog boxes in Hellcats
and Leyte (and the manuals for that matter) are absolutely full of
stupid spelling errors (like "acheived", in one dialog box that successful
pilots get to see a lot).
This annoys me. If it doesn't annoy you, read no further and trash this.
If it annoys you too, use ResEdit to paste these corrected STR# resources
into their respective applications (Hellcats and LeyteGulf). All I did
was use ResEdit on the original STR# resources and edit their text to
correct spellings, capitalize Hellcat, etc. You could use this same
technique to customize Hellcats messages (e.g. "You really bit the
big one there, ace.").
Graphic Simulations or anyone else is welcome to take these STR# resources
and create a more user-friendly patching application.
[Usual warning: ResEdit can be a dangerous toy, make backup copies first]
Surely this doesn't violate Graphic Simulation's copyright since the
STR# resources alone are of no use to anyone who doesn't own Hellcats/Leyte.

How embarassing - a minor bug crept into the version of Leyte Rescue that
I released yesterday (Friday) at the last minute which may prevent it from
recognising the Hellcats Preferences file. Here is a minor update which
fixes the (non-fatal) problem.
LEYTE RESCUE 1.01
This little utility will recover non-active pilots in Hellcats: Missions
at Leyte Gulf. It restores pilots to "Active" status but does not change
any of their other attributes (ie: points, rank, kills, etc are remembered
from their former life).
It's been tested on a Mac IIfx running System 7.0.1 - I make no
guarantees that it will work with your system, so you should
probably take suitable precautions (i.e. back up first) in case
anything goes wrong.
To recover your pilots, launch Leyte Rescue, when the SF dialog appears
up just select the Hellcats Preferences file in your Preferences Folder
and then wait a few seconds. Launch Leyte Gulf and you should see your
resurrected pilots on the roster.
Since this is a very small application (2k) I've attached it below in
BINHEX 4 format.
This application may be freely distributed.
Good luck,
//Paul (paulr@syma.sussex.ac.uk)

Version 1.0.2 of Microcosm is a maintenance release which fixes all of the
bugs that were discovered after the release of version 1.0.1.
In Microcosm, you pilot a microscopic robot around a maze while trying to
destroy the nasty viruses that are trying to destroy you. In order to kill a
specific type of virus, you must shoot at it with a specially encoded strand
of DNA. You can either rely on trial and error to find the correct DNA
sequence, or you can pick up the computer chips that appear in the maze. These
chips add functions to your robot and may make it easier to kill the viruses.
Meanwhile, the viruses' DNA sequences can change due to mutation, and enemy
robots roam the maze, performing such helpful tasks as knocking down the walls
or trying to steal your computer chips.
The Microcosm demo runs in monochrome or color and requires at least system
6.0.7. There is online help contained within the demo. Note that since this is
a demo, some functions have been disabled. For the nominal fee of $15, you can
get the full version which includes network functions, more levels and a way
cool level editor. See the demo for more details.

Here's a little program called Pathways Into Cheating for all of you that
play Pathways Into Darkness by Bungee Software. This program will allow you
to edit saved game files (for the full game, NOT the demo) to change your
character to make the game easier to play. It's got a nice mac interface
and has been fairly widely tested. Now you don't need to use a sector
editor to edit your characters!
Features include:
o adding/deleting any item.
o making grenade launchers w/ many grenades (autofire grenades!)
o raising your health points.
o raising your skill levels
o teleporting to various locations in the pyramid.
o making your character appear to be left-handed
o recharging your crystals.
o resetting the game time.
o many shortcuts to make editing painless process.
This cheater is not supported by Bungee Software, so don't hassle them if
it doesn't work for you. Use only on a backup copy of your saved games
file.

This is a Beta of an editor for Prince of Persia that I was working on a

A few things that I am planning on fixing, but havn't got around to it yet:
- the documentation really sucks (needs a total re-write).
- the prefs don't save yet.
- no on-line help.
- the graphics are kinda weak (low on the priority list).
- no cut&paste capabilities.
Other than that, it works and you can tweak the crap out of your PoP levels.

Subject: Spaceward Ho! 3.0 Demo

Hey! Here's the Spaceward Ho! 3.0 Demo from Delta Tao Software... This
is a playable demo. This isn't one of those multi-megabyte disturbing
QuickTime movie demos. You can play against 2 computer opponents in a small
galaxy and amazingly enough the real version is even better. Anyway,
the demo runs in color or b&w and runs on any Mac that has 1 meg of
ram free as well as System 6.0.5 or greater.
The main limitation of the demo is that your tech levels are limited
and the computer players' levels aren't. See if you can beat 'em anyway...
Here's a blurb from the back of the real (non-demo) Spaceward Ho! packaging:
"Spaceward Ho! is a strategy game of awesome scope, casting you as the
leader of a spacefaring race. Your goal is to explore and to colonize
the galaxy. Of course, you are not alone. As you discover new worlds
to colonize and terraform or mine, you'll find aliens bent on their
own galactic conquest opposing your expanding empire. Ally with them,
or fight them using ships built with your latest technological
advances. And if you use your resources (both limited and renewable)
cleverly, you'll conquer the galaxy!
* Play against up to 20 computer opponents, or against friends on an
AppleTalk network
* Every game is unique: choose type of galaxy, number of stars, and
artificial intelligence level
* Research new technologies (weapons, shields, miniaturization,
engines, and radical) to build custom spaceships
* Runs in color on color Macintoshes"

p.s. You can distribute this demo freely as long as you don't charge
money for it. Upload it, duplicate it, give it away. Knock yourself out.
Spaceward Ho! was written by Peter Commons and lots of it was designed
by Joe Williams. Art by Howard Vives and Bob Van de Walle.

This is the demo of the new Casady & Greene game "Spaceway 2000,"=
by
Jeff Robbin and john calhoun (of Glider, Pararena, etc.) dowloaded=
from
America Online.
The following info is from the ReadMe:

the very
> slow Macintoshes (like the Mac Plus and SE) are not recommended.
>=20
> Spaceway 2000=81 (demo) will run in black & white, 16 colors, 256,
> colors, thousands and millions of colors. It will run on any size
> monitor as well.
>=20
> You need System 6.05 or more recent to play Spaceway 2000=81 (demo).
>=20
> You need the following files to run Spaceway 2000=81 (demo):
> Spaceway 2000=81 (Demo)

Subject: Spectre Supreme Demo TEST UPLOAD PART ONE ONLY
Here is a demo of Spectre Supreme, the souped-up version of that old
favourite (of some) Spectre. This happens to be a UK demo and so contains
UK distribution info. Spectre Supreme features a new bunch of nasties
including slicer tanks, acid pools and auto-gun turrets (very hard to
destroy until you figure out how :-)). You can even go into negative
cyberspace and zoom around underground.
Spectre Supreme is sluggish on an LC/Mac II class machine - if you are
playing on one of these, you can speed up the demo by not selecting Filled
Polygons and Complex Shapes. This demo requires 1.8 Mb of memory for
itself.

This looks like an interative kids game, where you travel in a
cave running into all sorts of things. I think I saw some counting
games and other educational things that you run into.
I believe it was made by the same people who made Manhole.

This is a demonstration version (limited to a few levels only)
of Spin Doctor, a new commercial strategy/arcade type of game
by Callisto "SuperMazeWars" Corporation. Spin Doctor needs 256
colors or grays to run.
Spin Doctor is hard to describe -- it is truly like no game
I've ever seen before -- but basically you have to move a
rotating wand from point to point on a large grid, in search of
a 'goal' gridpoint. While doing so, you not only have to deal
with various types of enemy wands who stalk the grid in their
own mysterious ways, but also with spikes, acid droplets,
moving doors, bombs, fuses, and lots more fun stuff like that.
Your mileage may vary, but I think that if you liked Oxyd you
are probably going to LOVE Spin Doctor.
I am in no way involved with the people who created this game.
I'm just passing it along to the Internet archives. It was
originally uploaded from America Online.

Word Connection 1.0.1 Demo
Word Connection is a new word search game that will challenge the minds of
adults and children with a variety of puzzle configurations and a wide range
of difficulty levels.
Word Connection's puzzle boards are made of hexagon, square, or triangular
shaped cells, each containing a letter. Players form words from letters in
connecting cells. Points are awarded based on the number and size of the
words found.
Word Connection includes hints, puzzle solutions and definitions of words in
the puzzles. As you search for words, the game offers hints to help you. At
the end of a round of play Word Connection will show you the words you missed
and the definitions of any unfamiliar words.
The full version of Word Connection offers a different puzzle every time a
round is played. In the demo version only one puzzle is available for the
small and medium size boards and the large size puzzles are not available.
The minimum system required is a Mac Plus, system 6.0.7, and 1 megabyte of
RAM. The full version of game requires 4 megabytes of hard disk space. Word
Connection is recommended for ages ten to adult.
Word Connection is available directly from Action Software. Regular retail
price is $59.95. Word Connection will be offered at an introductory price of
$39.95 + $3 S&H ($5 S&H outside of U.S. and Canada) until September 30, 1993.
